Sony Xperia Z tablet to be the thinnest

Sony has unveiled (as part of Japanese network NTT Docomo's Spring line-up announcement) their thinnest tablet which shares the water resistant facility offered by its flagship handset.

The Android-powered Xperia Z is 6.9mm thick which is 0.01in thinner than Apple's iPad Mini despite featuring a bigger 10.1-inch screen.

The device has only been confirmed for release in Japan, but more details are expected next month on the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Sony's new tablet can also lay claim to being the lightest for its size as the firm says it weighs 495g.
